Accessibility

Last updated: 5 June 2026

Houseroom should be usable by every parent, whatever device or assistive technology they rely on. Choosing a school is stressful enough without a website getting in the way.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we treat accessibility as part of building the product rather than an afterthought. As a UK service we also work to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled users are not put at a disadvantage, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

What we have built for

  • Semantic, keyboard-navigable pages that work without a mouse.
  • Text and interface colours chosen for readable contrast.
  • A layout that adapts to mobile, tablet, and desktop, and to larger text sizes.
  • Labels and alternative text so screen readers can describe key content and controls.
  • Respecting your device's reduced-motion and dark-mode preferences where we can.

Known limitations

We are still improving. Some older articles, data tables, and third-party embeds may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We are working through these, and if something blocks you we want to hear about it and will help you get what you need another way.

Tell us about a problem

If you have trouble using any part of Houseroom, email hello@houseroom.uk with the page and what went wrong. We aim to reply within five working days and, where we cannot fix something quickly, to give you the information or service another way. You can also read our privacy policy for how we handle your contact details.
