Use Houseroom for your own family's school research. Don't scrape our data, don't impersonate other parents or schools, and don't rely on us as the only source for an admissions decision — verify dates with the school before acting. We try to keep everything accurate but we can't guarantee it. We're based in London and these terms are governed by English law.
1. The service
Houseroom provides a directory of UK independent schools, an admissions tracker, deadline alerts, an AI assistant, and related tools. The service is provided "as is" and may change.
Houseroom is a trading name of PurpleRain Technologies Inc, a corporation incorporated in Delaware, USA. You can contact us at support@houseroom.uk.
2. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure. You must be 18 or older to create an account. Don't impersonate another person or school.
3. Acceptable use
Don't scrape, bulk-download, or republish data from Houseroom without written permission. Don't use the service to harass, defame, or post unlawful content. Don't attempt to disrupt the service or bypass access controls.
4. Content you submit
Reviews, notes, and other content you submit remain yours. By submitting, you grant Houseroom a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and moderate that content as part of the service. Reviews are subject to moderation; we may remove content that's defamatory, off-topic, or otherwise breaches these terms.
5. Reporting content and house rules
Reviews, forum posts, questions and answers, tutor and adviser profiles, exchange listings, messages and other contributions are covered by our house rules. Anyone, with or without an account, can report content using the Report link next to it or our report form, or by emailing support@houseroom.uk. We may edit, hide, or remove content and suspend accounts in line with the house rules.
6. How we protect you from illegal content
Houseroom is a user-to-user service under the UK Online Safety Act 2023. Posting or sharing illegal content on Houseroom is not allowed. In particular:
- Child sexual exploitation and abuse. We do not allow any content that sexualises a child, or any attempt to contact, groom or meet a child. Houseroom accounts are for adults. We remove this content as soon as we know about it, close the account, and report it to the National Crime Agency or the police.
- Terrorism. We do not allow content that promotes, supports or glorifies terrorism or a proscribed organisation, and we remove accounts run by or for a proscribed organisation.
- Other illegal content. We do not allow other content that is illegal in the UK, including threats, harassment and stalking, hate, fraud and scams, intimate images shared without consent, sexual images sent to people who did not ask for them, encouraging suicide or self-harm, and offers to sell drugs, weapons or other illegal items.
Protecting children. Accounts are for adults, but children can read parts of Houseroom without an account. So we also do not allow content that is harmful to children: pornography; content that encourages or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders; bullying; abuse or hate aimed at people for who they are; content that encourages serious violence or shows it in graphic detail; dangerous stunts or challenges; and content that encourages taking harmful substances. We remove it in the same way as illegal content.
When we are told about content that may be illegal, a person reviews it. If it is illegal, or breaks these terms, we take it down quickly. We take down intimate images shared without consent within 48 hours of a valid report. Taken-down content is hidden, not deleted, so that we keep a record and can restore it if we got it wrong. We review parent reviews of schools before they are published. We do not use automated tools (proactive technology) to find or remove content.

7. Paid plans, cancellation and refunds
Some Houseroom features are paid. We show the price and what's included before you pay. If you are a consumer in the UK, you normally have 14 days from the start of a subscription to cancel for a refund under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Because Houseroom is a digital service that starts immediately, by subscribing you ask us to begin straight away and acknowledge that once we have fully provided the service during that period you lose the right to cancel; if you cancel part-way through, we may deduct an amount for the service already supplied. You can cancel from your account settings or by emailing support@houseroom.uk. Nothing here affects your statutory rights, including your right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to a service carried out with reasonable care and skill.
8. Accuracy and disclaimer
We work hard to keep school data accurate, but we can't guarantee it. Always confirm important dates and fees with the school directly before acting. Houseroom is not a substitute for professional admissions advice.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Houseroom is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed admissions deadlines or rejected applications. Nothing in these terms excludes liability we cannot exclude under English law (such as for fraud or death/personal injury caused by negligence) or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Termination
You can close your account at any time from the settings page. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. If we do, you can appeal.
11. Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced by email to current members.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. If you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of the place where you live.
