Editorial verdict

Houseroom's view of the school.

ethos

The school has a distinctly egalitarian ethos: there is no house system, no uniform in the sixth form, and no prefects, although older pupils do act as subject mentors for younger years. Accessible education is offered to the most intelligent applicants regardless of background through a significant means-tested bursary scheme.

teaching

In the sixth form, Russian and Italian are offered on a two-year rotation. A specially designed enrichment programme includes core sessions on current affairs and wellbeing alongside activities such as stage crew, sailing and engineering.

last word

With over 70 clubs on offer each week — from the philosophy society to ultimate frisbee — this is a school that combines outstanding academic and sporting achievement with a diverse, inclusive community and strong collaborative links with KES.
