Editorial verdict

Houseroom's view of the school.

ethos

The house system celebrates four values: confidence, community, curiosity and collaboration, with badges worn on blazers. The 'Planet Oak' project covers sustainability and wellbeing. An open-door policy for parents includes the opportunity to observe lessons early in the school year. An active PTA runs summer and winter fairs and an annual ball, with funds going back into the school—including a whole-school pantomime trip.

teaching

Pupils consistently perform well above national averages in English and maths. The leadership team, led by deputy head Chrisinda Nieuwenhuis, prioritises holistic education. In nursery, children access messy play, art, music, PE, Spanish and weekly forest school; wraparound care runs to 5.45pm. As pupils move up, the curriculum broadens in line with national requirements. A £10,000 library investment has added diverse, representative titles. The head meets parents individually in Years 4 and 5 to plan senior school options, including local grammar schools and independents such as Brentwood and New Hall.

pastoral

Staff are described as close-knit, dedicated, and freely available to pupils. Pupils noted teachers are 'super fun and friendly' and 'always free to talk to you and support you.' The head, having been an expat himself, actively involves families in school life. The school is described by pupils as 'a really inclusive place.'
