ethos

Head Sophie Banks (appointed September 2022, previously head of co-ed prep Eton End) launched six school values: Be Aspirational, Be Kind, Be Resilient, Be Curious, Be Responsible, Be Individual. The school is described as 'surprisingly relaxed and feet-on-the-ground' despite its privileged west London context. Houses are named after inspirational women: Rosalind Franklin, Florence Nightingale, Jane Austen, and Barbara Hepworth. Friday assemblies at nearby St Matthew's Church celebrate achievements, distribute Head's Awards for academic achievement, and award a Golden Apple recognising kindness, enthusiasm, and good manners.

The school describes itself as 'academically ambitious' and teaches to the top, with scaffolding for those who need it. Specialist teaching begins in Reception; pupils are set in English and maths from Year 3, with fluid groupings and parents included in streaming conversations. The school is a Microsoft Showcase School; girls in Year 3+ use a Surface Go and younger years have iPad access; there is also a 3D printer. STEAM is prominent, with hands-on science activities and visiting speakers. Upper School provision includes current affairs, philosophy, Spanish and Mandarin clubs; the head teaches Year 5s critical thinking. Most pupils stay until 11+ for Common Entrance rather than leaving at

'Pembridge Pulse' is a drop-in clinic for pupils to discuss friendship issues or other concerns. The school uses STEER to track wellbeing and operates a pupil post box ('Pembridge Pigeon') to channel feedback to the right staff member. Lunches are freshly cooked and described as hearty and healthy, with staff monitoring what girls eat. The parent community is described as warm and friendly, with an open-door culture and an active parents' association that organises a summer fete, head's quiz night, and Christmas party; it has recently raised funds towards a recording studi
