When do pupils join Guildford High School?

The natural entry points are at 4+ and 7+ for the Junior School and 11+ (joining in Year 7) and 16+ (joining Sixth Form) for the Senior School. We are happy to assess pupils for entrance at other age groups dependent on availability of spaces. Please see our Admissions Process page for more information.

How many places are available at 11+?

There are just over 100 pupils in Year 7, across four or five forms, with typically 22-26 pupils in each form. Around 40% of these places go to pupils from our own Junior School, with 60% being secured by pupils joining Guildford High School at 11+.

Do pupils use mobile phones, the internet and iPads?

Accepted Answer

The internet is a useful education tool and is embedded in our curriculum. All pupils are allocated an iPad to use for schoolwork at the start of the school year. Internet and iPad use is closely supervised in school. iPads will be collected from pupils in Years 7-9 during school holidays. How do Junior School pupils travel to school?

Junior School has a very efficient "drop off" arrangement outside school from 07:45 where staff and pupils are waiting to greet younger girls as they arrive so that you can simply drive through without needing to park. There is a similar system in place for pick up.

Do you run extra-curricular clubs and activities?

There are a huge number of extra-curricular clubs and activities offered in the Junior School. Activities take place before school, during the lunch break or after school. Please see our Enrichment page for more information.

How much homework will my daughter be set each day?

Accepted Answer

Homework in the Junior School is very limited and when it is set, we endeavour to make it valuable for the girls, as well as flexible to fit around other activities the girls undertake. We prioritise 'core' homework which includes reading, spellings and times tables. All girls are expected to read at home regularly. There is no homework set during holidays.
