Questions

How many places available at 11+ each year?

We have approximately 90 places available for external candidates each year, split evenly between boys and girls, with approximately half coming from state schools. Each year we typically receive in excess of 600 applications.

What does the 11+ admissions process involve?

The admissions process is divided into two parts. All registered applicants are invited to take part in both parts of the process which comprises the computer based Cognitive Ability Test (CAT), which will be the ISEB Pre-Test. Applicants will usually sit the ISEB Pre-Test at their current school on a date decided by them, usually in October or November of Year 6.

What happens on the 11+ entrance exam day?

All applicants will attend the second stage of the assessment process and will participate in a Learning Workshop. For the Learning Workshop, applicants are divided into small groups and participate in a collaborative activity led by a member of the teaching staff. Applicants will have a break then will take part in a short, 30 minute creative writing task.

Do you accept applications from families living overseas?

We can consider applicants who live overseas and are not able to attend in person for the entrance exams. Overseas applicants wishing to join our Senior School or Sixth Form will be required to sit the assessment in their home country, usually in their current school or approved testing centre. Further details can be found on the International Applicants page.

Do you recommend tutoring in preparation for 11+ entrance?

We do not encourage tutoring for your child in preparation for the 11+ entrance exams. ISEB tests are based on the national curriculum, so additional preparation is not required. However, it can be beneficial for pupils to familiarise themselves with the ISEB online test player in advance of their test. You can do so for free using the ISEB Pre-Test Walkthrough .

Do you give extra time in the entrance exams for children with specific needs?

Access arrangements for the ISEB Pre-Test will be arranged and accommodated by ISEB. Applicants with a specific learning need or physical need who may require access arrangements for the entrance exams (eg. extra time) will need to complete the access arrangements form at the time of registration.

What if my child is unable to attend the entrance exam day?

We will be offering several different time slots on the day of the second stage of the 11+ assessments and you will be given the opportunity to select your preferred time. If your child is unable to attend at all on the day, due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, we may be able to arrange a "catch-up" session.
