16+ New Starters: Life in the Sixth Form

The entrance exams are broadly in line with the expected knowledge gained from National Curriculum teaching at the appropriate Key Stage in English and Mathematics. We do not recommend tutoring in these subjects.

If you have a clash with another school, you must email the Admissions Team at registrar@kgs.org.uk by the registration deadline stating the school with whom you have a clash. We will then endeavour to give you an exam time that will enable your child to make both exams that day.

At 11+, the ratio it is approximately 800 - 900 candidates for 150 places.

The deadline for 11+ applications for 2027 entry will be early October 2026. 16+ entry FAQs WHAT IS THE RATIO OF APPLICANTS TO PLACES? (16+ entry) For 16+, the ratio is approximately 200+ candidates for up to 50 places. WHAT PREDICTED GCSE GRADES ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? (16+ entry) As a minimum, students must achieve at least grade 7 (equivalent to A grade) in four separate subjects.

Extra time is allowed in all papers, and a laptop computer may be used for written papers, provided that a professional (current school or Educational Psychologist) recommends this and it is approved by our Head of Learning Support. A copy of the report or recommendation should be attached to the registration form and be received by the registration deadline.
