About this programme

Debate Chamber runs non-residential academic summer schools in July and August at Woburn House, Tavistock Square, in Bloomsbury, central London. Courses for ages 15 to 18 cover subjects such as Economics, English Literature, History, International Relations, Law, Medicine, Philosophy and PPE, and there are introductory 'Young' courses for ages 11 to 14. Teaching is seminar-style, led mainly by doctoral students, and runs 10:30am to 4:30pm each day; lunch is not provided. Fees vary by course (the 2026 in-person Medicine course was £845), a 25% deposit secures a place, and bursaries of up to 90% are available.

Entry

No formal entry requirement; courses are designed for motivated students aged 11-18 (subject-specific courses are pitched at either the 11-14 or 15-18 age band).

Good to know

What to bring

  • A notebook and pen (a laptop is fine); a scientific calculator for Mathematics and Physics courses; own lunch.

Paying

  • Places are secured with a non-refundable 25% deposit, with the balance due eight weeks before the course. Cancelling more than eight weeks before the start refunds everything except the deposit; later cancellations are refunded on a sliding scale.
