Editorial verdict

Houseroom's view of the school.

overview

No longer seen as a soft option, Stowe has undergone a renaissance over the past two decades under the leadership of head Dr Anthony Wallersteiner. It is a place where individualism is encouraged, talent nurtured and eccentricity celebrated, set in one of the grandest and most beautiful school settings in the country. For both boarding and day students an education here is described as a huge privilege and reassuringly liberal, with a new breed of pupils arriving who are not short of academic ambition.
